Thato Mosehle to stun at Miss Supranational pageant in warrior inspired national costume
THATO Mosehle is the first person under the official Miss South Africa Organisation banner to take part in the Miss Supranational pageant. Taking place on August 21, 2021, the 12th edition of the competition will take place in Nowy Sącz, Poland. Mosehle revealed her national outfit and portrait gown ahead of her departure for the international pageant.
Current title holder, Miss Supranational 2019 Anntonia Porsild, from Thailand, will crown her successor. Mosehle’s national outfit is so distinctly South African, the beauty is sure to stand out. Designed by Sello Medupe, the owner of Scalo, the outfit was inspired by an African warrior princess with elements of Mosehle’s Sesotho culture and heritage incorporated. The blue print SeanaMarena blanket symbolises the royal crown jewel of all Basotho blankets.
“The Miss Supranational Organisation requested a national outfit that has a personal significance to the contestant. With Thato being a doctor, fighting on the frontlines of Covid, we wanted to show how she sees not only herself but all of her colleagues, as warriors. We also wanted to incorporate something personal from her culture, a seanamarena, a traditional blanket to symbolise the comfort, warmth and pride she feels for her people. We, as an organisation, are so proud to showcase an outfit that is truly representative of our country,” said creative director of the Miss South Africa Organisation Werner Wessels.
Mosehle will be dressed in outfits from Willet Designs Couture, Malondie, Sheriff Taylor, Ernst Schutz and Juan William Aria for her daytime looks. Her evening gowns are by Kobus Rautenbach and Anel Botha.

“I love my wardrobe,” said Mosehle adding: “all these talented South African designers have found a way to make me feel incredibly special.”
As the country’s representative on the world stage, Mosehle believes in the power of education.
“My dream as a Miss Supranational South Africa is to see young people being provided with tools that will help them solidify their educational foundation.”
Mosehle said with education and skills development, people have a sense of empowerment and can better think of ways to make their lives successful. I know I won’t fix the issues facing South Africa but our history as a country has proven that when an individual inspires those who follow to make a change, it creates a ripple effect and the significant change will be enjoyed by generations to come.”
Mosehle was crowned Miss Supranational South Africa 2020 at the Miss South Africa pageant held on October 24, 2020.
The 26-year-old was born in the North West Province in South Africa.
She obtained her MBCHB degree at the University of the Free State in 2018. At the time of the Miss South Africa pageant, she was working as a medical doctor. She completed her internship at the Klerksdorp-Tshepong Hospital complex in March this year, working as a frontline worker during the Covid-19 pandemic. She aspires to become an anaesthesiologist one day. She was also a part time make-up student at the Beauty Therapy Institute.
She launched her weekly #ChooseDay online talk show this year to share her medical knowledge.
With #ChooseDay, Mosehle wants to help people understand the basics of how their bodies work and what they can do to help keep healthy. She will use these informal online chats to dispel medical myths while shining a light on disease and how to avoid the pitfalls of an unhealthy lifestyle.
Mosehle believes that Oprah Winfrey is an example of living a purpose-driven life.
“I also take inspiration from people that I meet every day. I have been inspired by presidents, business owners, waitresses, patients and the list goes on. If you take the time to listen to people’s stories, you will see the treasure that you can apply to your own life.”
Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida and Miss Universe South Africa Natasha Joubert bid Mosehle farewell at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg.
